Prince’s Trust face their biggest challenge yet working on vandalised Dream Centre

Friday, June 30 2017

A group of unemployed young people from Skelmersdale and the surrounding
areas have rolled up their sleeves to make a difference to their local community, by helping out clearing a vandalised building.

The young people are currently completing The Prince’s Trust Team programme with West Lancashire College, to give them the skills and confidence to find a job. During the 12-week course, they have been fundraising, helping communities and building their skills to help them find work.

The 9 Prince’s Trust students have been helping out at The Dream Centre in Digmoor Skelmersdale for two weeks. The Dream Centre is a charitable organization providing, spiritual, practical advice and guidance. It also provides local children and young people with a youth club. The students have helped rejuvenate a vandalised building, painting walls and clearing debris, and have said it was one of their hardest projects yet!

The team have sourced materials for this project themselves; they have fundraised by carrying out two bucket shakes at Asda in Skelmersdale and via donations from local businesses. The team would like to thank West Lancs Paints and Asda in Skelmersdale for their support.

Lorraine Murt Prince’s Trust Team leader for Skelmersdale said “This project
has been one of the most challenging.  The team first heard about this project through Tony Adegbenro.  Tony is the Pastor/manager of The Dream Centre/ Hope House Project.”.

Lorraine continued  “ The Church and Local Youth Club is based in Carfield, Skelmersdale, the whole building had suffered a spate of vandalism, the team really wanted to show their support and make the area more appealing for members of their local community.  I am so proud of them all and truly amazed at what they have achieved. I would like to say a special thank you to Lynda Duffy, Community Champion, from Asda Skelmersdale for all the good work she does in supporting the local community.”

In the year ahead, The Trust aims to support 58,000 vulnerable young people across
the UK, helping to give them the skills and confidence to find a job. Three in four young people on Prince’s Trust programmes move into work, education or training.
