West Lancashire College Gold Cadets

Monday, September 24 2018

In June 2018 nine West Lancashire College students were chosen to attend  Fast Trackers – Be the Engineers of the Future Event in London, an event focusing on learning about the development of the  High Speed Two (Hs2). To finalise their project the learners visited a local company confirming their status as Gold Cadets.

Learners visited local company Stackright, for a guided tour and inspirational talks from the Operations director Rick Southern, Production Manager Tony Winnett and H.R Manager Alicia McMahon.

The learners heard first-hand the importance of punctuality, attendance and education in a real working environment. Seeing how attitude and qualifications either hinder or help them get to where they want to be in life. The company is Skelmersdale based and turns over approximately £17 million a year, as you can imagine this was a stimulating and very worthwhile visit for our learners.

Rick Southern said “I would just like to thank for inviting us to help with the students final part of their project. We felt the session was very useful to both the students and us here at Stackright and we hope to be able to help in any future projects the college have running. Each student that attended today was very respectful and eager to listen and learn, which made mine, Tony and Alicia’s job all that more easier”

The learners have now completed the HS2 project and are Gold Cadets, their certificates are on the way to us now.

This could not have happened without support from curriculum staff & Nikki, Rick, Tony and Alicia thank you for your support in making this happen.
